Original Article: Obama Admin. awards $32 million in grants to AZ

Associated Press – December 24, 2009 2:04 PM ET

WASHINGTON (AP) – Programs intended to help Arizona’s homeless are picking up $32.6 million from the Obama Administration.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is renewing grant funding needed to keep 102 local homeless assistance programs throughout Arizona operating.

The funding comes from nearly $1.4 billion that will help an unprecedented 6,400 existing programs nationwide to continue offering critically needed housing and services to homeless persons and families.

HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan said the grants will make certain programs helping the homeless have the resources they need to house and serve persons who might otherwise be forced to turn to the streets.
